This version of Chair Yoga is designed for seniors and people with limited mobility who are not comfortable or able to get up and down off the floor, or who need the support of a chair for balance or stability. The pace of the class is slow and the movements are gentle with plenty of modifications to make them safe. The benefits are increased strength, circulation and balance, a sense of well-being and relaxation. Students wear clothing that is comfortable to move in, and a minimum of props are used.
Chair yoga will be held at Hospice Northwest from 1:30-2:15pm on January 23 and January 30, followed by 45 minutes of Restorative Yoga. Cost for Chair Yoga only is $5/student per class; with Restorative also it is $8 for Hospice Northwest Volunteers and $12 for others.
Please register by email: yoga @robinfaye.ca or by phone (807) 632-6591.
Slow Yoga is a mix of Hatha and Restorative styles, providing both gentle strength and balance development and deep stretch and relaxation. Classes begin with breath awareness and visualization, progress to incorporating the breath with movement in asana, and quieten the body into deeply relaxing restorative postures that embody the absence of effort. It’s a great way to end a work or school week! Students wear loose, comfy clothing and are supported by a variety of yoga props.
Slow Yoga classes are offered at The Creative Commons on Friday afternoons from 3-4:30pm starting January 24. Cost TBA. Registration details above.
My classes at Cedar Grove Community Acupuncture Clinic (Algoma and Cornwall) begin on Saturday, January 11: Yoga For Round Bodies from 3:30-4:30. Fee is $95 for 6 sessions and pre-registration is required. As of January 13, there is room for one more student in the class.
Classes at Hospice Northwest on Thursdays (starting January 9) are also open to the public. Restorative is from 1:30-3pm and Hatha/Restorative geared to the after work crowd is from 5:10-6:10pm. Fees there are $80 and $70 respectively for the 8-week session, with slightly higher fees for drop-ins. Pre-registration is required and permission is needed for drop-ins since there is limited space.

I’m hosting a Self-Care Mini-Retreat on Body and Breath Awareness on January 19 from 2-4pm. There are two spots left:
Using a combination of yoga, self-massage, movement and visualization, find your way to a deepening sense of relaxation and cooperation within your body. Using your hands in coordination with your breath, bring increasing new awareness and healing to relieve tension and pain. Fee is $25. Again, class size is small so pre-registration is essential.
